Highlights from the report.

• The volume of patents public funded institute hover around 1000 whereas from corporate sector it is 3 times higher.
• Major focus of govt funded research was on medicinal preparation with focus on traditional herbal medicine. A number of patents were also filed in organic chemistry related to acrylic compounds.
• corporate sector also patented  on medicinal preparation though  focus was on preparation of organic active ingredients and preparation of ointments.

It can only be said that India is far behind China in patenting. 

CII Industrial Innovation Awards 2015

With the primary objective of boosting innovation culture within industry and inducing a healthy competition among firms to achieve innovation excellence, CII has launched its flagship “CII Industrial Innovation Awards” in 2014 which received an overwhelming response from all sections of the industry and was a grand success. Post its grand success last year, CII has introduced this award as an annual recognition for industry to adjudged companies as innovation driven. The award envisages to recognize and reward the best in Indian firms at different levels (large, medium, small) and categories (manufacturing, service) and in the process encourage others to strive for the honor. In 2015 along with existing award categories, CII has introduce a new award segment to provide recognition to the top Indian Start-ups each year.

CII Industrial Innovation Awards 2014

Total 81 applications were received all across India and from leading companies under different award categories. After the first level of submission and subsequent online jury top 65 have been selected for the 2nd stage. Two level of screening were carried out on these 65 organizations, consisting of Onsite Jury Assessment (In direct interaction with organizations and Assessors) and Final Jury (physical meeting of Assessors to evaluate the results) and top 23 were shortlisted for the Grand Jury. In addition the Final Jury has also recommended to consider 3 more organizations to be part of top 26 most innovative organization for the year 2014.  After the successful conclusion of Grand Jury for the CII Industrial Innovation Awards 2014 top 26 innovations have been identified as the top innovation driven organizations for the year 2014.

The Tech Awards 2011 Laureates

Innovation awards in Hyderabad pharma cluster

The Commissionerate of Industries, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Foundation for MSME Clusters (FMC), Bulk Drug Manufacturers Association of India [BDMA(I)], and Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council (Pharmexcil) launched Innovation Awards for MSMEs.The Award program is intended to acknowledge, reward, and celebrate the spirit of innovation among Andhra Pradesh based micro, small, and medium enterprises operate in drugs, pharmaceuticals and bio-pharmaceuticals spaces. The State level Award Program is envisaged to help innovative enterprises to get recognition among industry, peers, customers, consumers, government, and support-institutions. Unlike other innovation award programs that are shadowed by big-ticket innovations and large players, Innovation Awards for MSMEs acknowledges and rewards small-ticket but critically important incremental innovations.

Innovation for India Awards 2012

Marico Innovation Foundation has opened the entry process for its  4th edition of the Innovation for India Awards. Since the inception of the awards, 28 breakthrough innovations have been awarded. These include innovations from organizations such as Kirloskar Brothers, Titan, Tutor Vista, Goonj, Azim Premji Foundation, Trichy Police, Gujarat Government, amongst others.Last date of receiving entries is Friday, September 2nd, 2011.

ASIAN INNOVATION AWARDS 2011

The Wall Street Journal Asia is now accepting entries for the Asian Innovation Awards 2011. Presented in sole partnership with Credit Suisse for the second year running, the Awards are committed to finding the next big ideas in Asia Pacific, from entirely new inventions to the advancement of a classic idea.

The deadline for entries is Friday, March 25, 2011.

In 2010 the Asian Innovation Awards attracted nearly 300 entries from 13 countries and territories throughout the Asia Pacific region. The top prize, the Gold Award, was awarded to Tata Chemicals for its development of the Tata Swach Nanotech Water Purifier – a low-cost, portable “bulb” that purifies untreated water with paddy husks and nano-silver particles.This year’s entries will be judged based on three criteria: level of creativity or degree of innovation, quality of execution, and potential impact on quality of life or productivity. The awards are open to individuals, small businesses, large corporations or academia in Asia Pacific.

All entries will also be eligible for The Credit Suisse Technopreneur of the Year Award, which honors the entry that best applies technology with the greatest potential for commercial success.Twelve finalists will be selected from the entry submissions, each of which will be profiled in The Wall Street Journal Asia as well as online at asia.WSJ.com. The Piramal Prize 2010

The Piramal Prize is a partnership between Piramal Foundation and Centre for Innovation, Incubation, and Entrepreneurship at IIM Ahmedabad to enable bold entrepreneurial ideas with potential to reduce the burden of disease across India. The award recognizes high-impact models that propose innovative solutions which directly or indirectly address India’s healthcare crisis. Entries may include, but are not limited to, innovations in service delivery, technology applications, health-related products, or mechanisms to address public health necessities such as potable water.
The Piramal Prize is awarded in 2 categories:
1. Emerging Ventures

Disruptive ventures in existence for less than three years. Entries may be in the start up/ idea/ growth stages, ideally with a prototype/pilot project completed or underway. The prize winner in this category will receive structured funding of INR 10,00,000/-, and additional support including office space, operational support, mentoring, and access to additional financing.
2. Established Organizations

For Enterprises with a proven ability to reduce the burden of disease. Nominees may be not-for-profit or for-profit, but should present measurable impact on healthcare in large scale. The winning organization will receive a cash prize of INR 10,00,000/-

Cisco announces its second Cisco I-Prize contest. In this open, global competition entrepreneurs submit proposals and collaborate to create the seed idea for Cisco's next billion-dollar business.

Idea submissions should fall in one of four categories:

• The Connected Life: Technological inspirations that dramatically improve living conditions and disseminate culture
• New Ways to Learn: Next-generation solutions that transform when, where, and how people learn.

The winning team will receive a grand prize of $250,000.

The Economists Innovation Awards

THE ECONOMIST’S ninth annual Innovation Summit will take place in London on October 22nd. You can nominate outstanding innovators in seven categories: bioscience (which includes medical devices, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and agriculture); energy and the environment; computing and telecommunications; “no boundaries” (which includes materials science, nanotechnology and other emerging fields); consumer products and services; business processes; and social and economic innovation, a category that recognises individuals who have pioneered novel technologies and business models that improve everyday lives.

TR 35 : inviting nominations from young innovators

Nominations invited from young innovators ( less than 35 years as on October 1, 2010). MIT Technology Review's prestigious TR35 awards recognizing the world's top young innovators have been a great success in recent years. Established in 1999 as the TR100, the TR35 list of Technology Review published by Technology Review Inc., an independent media company owned by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, recognizes the outstanding innovators under the age of 35 each year. The awards span a wide range of fields, including biotechnology, materials, computer hardware, energy, transportation, and the Internet.

Now Technology Review's first “INDIA TR35” list of 35 young innovators will appear in March 2010. It is a list that would now recognize the outstanding innovators under the age of 35 from India. MIT TR is now seeking nominations for the 2010 class of INDIA TR35 winners. The final deadline for the nominations is on December 31, 2009!

Innovation for India awards 2010

Marico Innovation Foundation (www.maricoinnovationfoundation.org) will hold its 3^rd edition of the Innovation for India Awards to be held on 12^th March 2010 in Mumbai. Any Indian company, social organization, government body and/or individuals who have successfully conceptualized and nurtured a brilliant idea, made it work and brought it to market is eligible to participate.
