South Korea's mobile RFID technology

EE Times bring the news that the South Korean proprietary mobile radio-frequency ID technology, known here as Object Identifier (OID), has been adopted as an international standard by the Geneva-based International Organization for Standardization (ISO). This is another landmark achievement by the farsighted Koreans. They established beach head applications in port/ airport logistics with RFID, resisted the attempts of Americans to impose their (Savi) technology while accepting partner status in defense logistics. For all the efforts , they now are in a commanding position, they get patent fees and other first mover advantage. We are far behind, in passive tag era.

PCT patents from India on decline

A record 145,300 international patent applications were filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in 2006, an increase of 6.4 percent over the previous year. Philips topped the list with 2,495. India is not among the top 15 , China is at 8 with patent applications raising from 1018 in year 2002 to 3,910 in year 2006. India on the other hand has seen a steady decline from a high of 764 applications in 2003 to 627 in year 2006.

eInfochips

eInfochips was promoted by Pratul Shroff. He holds a BS in Electronics Engineering from BITS - 1976, and a MS in Computer Engineering from Cornell - 1977. He has worked for 9 years at Intel and Daisy Systems. At Intel, he was one of the designers of the 80186 chip, fountainhead of the PC era. Pratul was one of the founders of Daisy. He founded eInfochips in 1995 with just one engineer, working out of his home. IPNetCam is their new offering, a Smart Surveillance Camera Reference Design based on TIDaVinci TM (TMS320DM6446 TM) technology with features like Object Detection, Classification & Tracking.

2007 EE Times ACE Awards Winners
