i2india Holdings Ltd

Imperial Innovations Group plc (AIM:IVO), announced that £1.5 million of seed funding has been raised for i2india Holdings Limited (“i2india”), a technology commercialisation and investment company focused on creating commercial value from intellectual property developed in India. Imperial Innovations holds a 35% stake in the company.Susan Searle, CEO of Imperial Innovations, joins the board of i2india as a director alongside Chris Mathias, an entrepreneur and co-founder of Conduit Communications, a software and web development company.

Sloka Telecom powers the first 5.8GHz WiMAX network in France

Sloka Telecom, an Indian wireless infrastructure company announced that their WiMAX base stations and network solutions will be been deployed by Supernet Technologies (an RT Networx Company) in the town of Saint Medard en Jalles of France in December 2007. Sloka Telecom's WiMAX equipment is powered by Wavesat's chipset.

Sloka is a start-up providing solutions for next generation wireless networks. Sloka offers its fixed/nomadic WiMAX IEEE802.16-2004 portfolio of products consisting of Base Stations, CPEs, AAA and NMS. Government issues Circular on border enforcement of IPRs

In its Circular dated October 29, 2007 (“Circular”), the Central Board of Excise & Customs under the Ministry of Finance, India, has issued instructions to the relevant customs and excise authorities, for implementation of the Intellectual Property Rights (Imported Goods) Enforcement Rules, 2007 (“IPR Rules”) dated May 8, 2007. The IPR Rules emanate from Section 11 of the Customs Act, 1952 which empowers the Central Government to prohibit import or export of goods infringing intellectual property rights. Before the notification of the IPR Rules, the notification of January 18, 1964, prohibited import of goods infringing trademarks and design. These new IPR Rules prohibit import of goods infringing patent, copyright and geographical indications as well .

MIT and the government of Indias Department of Biotechnology today launched a partnership that will result in the creation of a new Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) in India.This new institute, which will be modeled after the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST), will include faculty from multiple disciplines and professions, offer degrees through multidisciplinary programs, and develop strong ties with other institutions. Funded by the Indian government, the Indian HST will be a multidisciplinary, multiprofessional research and training center that is highly interconnected with regional centers of excellence.
