Innovation for India awards

Innovation for India Awards have been instituted by Innovation for India-Marico Foundation and Business world. Innovation for India-Marico Foundation , a not-for-profit organisation was created by Marico Limited in partnership with Erehwon Innovation Consulting in March 2003 under the stewardship of Dr. Ramesh Mashelkar. The foundation's mission is to search for directions to the questions :
• Why do we as Indians, believe that innovation and quantum growth necessarily comes from the West? How can we reverse this flow?
• What does it take, instead, to put India onto the global map by leveraging Indian knowledge and know-how?
• How can we learn to multiply and create vast numbers of innovators by design? Who can then, go on to ignite others?
• Who are those that can act as lighthouses of innovation that others can emulate and learn from?

20 lalkhs seed capital from Nirma labs

Nirma labs is inviting proposals from innovators to incubate their ideas. Maximum financial support will be Rs 20 lakhs. Their "groom-incubate-grow” program is designed to transform outstanding individuals into Global Techno Entrepreneurs. Initial focus is on the ICT sector. NirmaLabs started with its first batch of grooming in July 2004. Currently there a four projects involving eight individuals in the incubator. Two of these projects are nearing completion of their prototype and will be spun-off as commercial ventures in the next few months. Two other projects are expected to be spun-off as companies by early 2007. From the third batch of grooming that started in January 2006, they expect two/three projects to be incubated by August/September 2006. The next batch is commencing on Monday, July 17, 2006.

Electronic Catalytic Convertor cum Fuel Synthesizer

Hydrodrive Systems offer Electronic Catalytic Convertor cum Fuel Synthesizer, Hydrodrive FW-1. The product has received patent rights from the Government of India (vide Patent No: 200286) and from the Government of Great Britain (vide Patent No: GB 2397782). It is a pre-engine device used to control the exhaust emissions of all four stroke internal combustion engines using diesel, leaded, unleaded petrol and gaseous fuels. It improves fuel properties for better combustion, works with all fuels and offers fuel savings. The Convertor is a retrofit in between the diesel/gasoline engine fuel filter and before the fuel injection pump/carburetor. The Convertor cum Fuel Synthesizer provides molecular engineering of the fuels for improved combustion, lower emissions, reduced fuel consumptions in diesel generators/diesel engines used in many industrial applications. In automobile applications, it is powered by the 12V battery present in the vehicle. It comprises of an open ended fuel passage cum nano-wire wave guide for obstruction free fuel flow in the fuel system, a co-axial resonator made of nano-structure/nano-wire wave guide mechanisms for propagation and transmission of one or all waves - microwaves, photon emissions, sound waves, surface waves and other types of waves including electrostatic ion-cyclotron waves, Alfen waves, and quantum waves in the presence of a transverse direct current. It enhances engine performance. The changes in the kinetics of the combustion process make the combustion full and complete resulting in reduced emissions than in an exhaust catalytic Convertor. When used along with a conventional exhaust catalytic Convertor, it facilitates moving towards zero emissions in gasoline engines tuned towards lean mixture. With diesel engines, it reduces the smoke and suspended particulate emissions by over 60%. In general, the microwave heating melts the wax, sulphur for full combustion and changes the viscosity and density of the diesel under magneto-hydro-dynamic flow conditions. The wax and sulphur in melted conditions flows freely without clogging the diesel injection nozzles and maintains the original diesel spray pattern within the combustion chamber, which worsens with usage otherwise. The peak cylinder pressure and peak cylinder temperature are reduced. This is reflected in the smoothness of the engine operation with enhanced power and pick up and extension of the slow speed limit in the top gear avoiding frequent gear shifts. In all engines, the soot within the combustion chamber is automatically de-carbonized in about 1500 kilometer of vehicle run after fitment.

Australian Innovation Festival

The Australian Innovation Festival is a national event established in 2002 to celebrate Australian innovation. Its vision is to increase public awareness of the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship through a renewed emphasis on the three pillars of economic growth - excellence in research, development and commercialisation.

There are five major objectives, which determine the future directions of the Festival, namely:

· Demonstrate the value of research, development and commercialisation.

· Profile Australia's intellectual capital.

· Reinforce the innovation and entrepreneurial process, from idea to market.

· Facilitate networking between innovators and investors; and

· Collaborate nationally and with each Australian State & Territory.

The Australian Innovation Festival performs a key role in ‘value adding’ a greater awareness of the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship. In this regard, the most important determinant of the Festival’s success is the level of support, commitment and engagement from existing event organisers.
In the current year The Australian Innovation Festival, will run from the 26th April to 14th May 2006. The 2006 Festival will see a renewed focus on the '4Cs - Creativity, Connections, Collaboration and Commercialisation' which highlight the importance of innovation in Australia business and enterprise.
