Niagara Falls is one of the most popular tourist spots and there is only one statue in the park- not any politician but an inventor, Nikola Tesla. Generating electric power at the fall was not commercially attractive for a century as there was no technology to transmit power over long distance. The Niagara Falls Power company offered as much as $100,000/- as prize (Open Innovation challenge?) in 1900 for anyone who could develop a method to evacuate power. This became a reality few decades later by adopting Alternating Current technology contributed significantly by Serbian inventor Nikola Tesla.
