Government to permit Scientists, Technologists and Academicians to get associated with Knowledge Enterprises

The Union Cabinet today approved a proposal from Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) on “Encouraging development and commercialization of inventions and innovations; a new impetus” comprising a package of measures viz. a) Permitting the researchers to have an equity stake in scientific enterprises / spin offs while in professional employment with their research and academic organizations; b) Permitting the Scientific Establishment to invest knowledgebase as equity in the enterprises; c) Encouraging the Scientific Establishment to set up incubation centres; and d) Facilitating mobility of researchers between industry and scientific establishment.

Open Innovation Portal at IIT Delhi

Open Innovation Portal is an initiative of the Centre of Excellence in E-governance, Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology (Delhi), alongwith Sun Microsystems and Knowledge Commons.The objective of the portal is to facilitate an innovation society by allowing innovators to register their ideas on the portal and establish prior art.Users shall not file any idea/ innovation that has IPR encumbrances.

Em Tech India 2009

In March 2009, MIT’s Technology Review, the world’s oldest technology publication, and CyberMedia, India’s leading technology publisher, will be organizing the prestigious annual conference, EmTech India 2009 and also launch the Technology Review India magazine. This will be the first EmTech conference to be held outside the United States. The inaugural event will be held March 2-3, 2009, at the Hotel Le Méridien, New Delhi.

Electrolux Design Lab 2009

Electrolux, a global leader in home appliances and appliances for professional use, launches the 7th edition of its global design competition Design Lab. This year Electrolux celebrates its 90-year anniversary with its Design Lab theme: “Designs for the next 90 years”.Undergraduate and graduate industrial design students are invited to compete for prize money and an internship by submitting their innovative home appliance ideas.

This year’s brief is to create thoughtfully-designed home appliances that will shape how people prepare and store food, wash clothes, and do dishes over the next nine decades. The design ideas should address key consumer insights such as being adaptive to time and space, provide learning and allow for individualization.A limited number of finalists will be invited to participate in the final event in London September 24, 2009, to present their entries to a jury of high-level designers and experts.
